How to Cook Delicious Meals with What You’re Given

ISSUE: With the government shutdown and SNAP benefits paused in November,
more families than ever in the greater Chattanooga-Hamilton County, TN area are
relying on local food banks and pantries to feed their children. While these food boxes
provide critical support, many families may be unsure how to cook the items they
receive, how to make them appealing to kids, or how to make the ingredients stretch
across multiple meals.

OUR SOLUTION: Box2Table – a community-driven social campaign that turns food
boxes into inspiration. Each week, a new list of common food box ingredients will be
shared by Chattanooga Food Coalition. Residents can post recipes or videos using the
hashtag #Box2Table, showing creative, delicious, and kid-friendly ways to cook
what’s “in the box” and show how to make it stretch over a few meals.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE: Anyone who loves to cook, from home chefs to
foodies. TV news anchors, radio hosts, and local influences can join by featuring
recipes, sharing tips, or creating videos that highlight the fun and creativity of cooking
with food box ingredients. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #Box2Table

WHY IT MATTERS: By sharing ideas and stories, we hope to empower families who
rely on food aid, stretch every ingredient further, raise awareness of the need, and
help destigmatize the use of food bank boxes—showing that everyone can make
something delicious out of what they’re given.
